Anthropic Secures Major AI Compute Deal with SpaceX’s Colossus 1 Facility
Anthropic has entered a landmark agreement to utilize all 300 megawatts of computing capacity at SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center in Memphis. The deal, announced by Chief Product Officer Ami Vora during the company's developer conference, provides Anthropic with immediate access to 220,000 GPUs, significantly expanding its AI infrastructure capabilities.
The partnership comes as global demand for AI compute resources reaches unprecedented levels, forcing tech firms to forge unconventional alliances. Anthropic's compute portfolio now includes agreements with Amazon (5GW capacity), Google-Broadcom (5GW from 2027), and a $30 billion Azure partnership with Microsoft-Nvidia.
For end users, the expanded capacity translates to doubled rate limits on Claude Code for premium subscribers and lifted restrictions during peak hours. The move positions Anthropic to compete more aggressively in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, where compute access has become the critical differentiator.
